Movember: Men’s Health Matters in Mogale City

Men’s Health in the Spotlight

Every November, men across the world grow moustaches to spark conversations about health. But here in Mogale City, Movember carries an even deeper message. It’s about more than awareness, it’s about action.

From Kagiso’s barbershops to Krugersdorp’s community centers, local men are taking charge of their wellness, proving that caring for yourself is the strongest move a man can make.

Barbershops, Where Conversations Begin

In Mogale City, barbershops have become unexpected centers of change. “When a man sits in my chair, it’s more than a haircut,” says Thabiso Mokoena, owner of T’s Fade Lounge in Kagiso. “It’s where men talk about what’s really happening in their lives.”

Throughout November, barbers are sharing pamphlets on mental health, cancer awareness, and lifestyle care, some even offer free blood pressure checks while clients wait.

Men’s Groups Taking the Lead

Local organizations such as Men of Honour Kagiso and Brothers in Dialogue are hosting open talks and community walks focused on men’s wellness. “Too many men suffer in silence,” says Sipho Ramathe of Men of Honour. “We want to build a brotherhood that supports, listens, and heals together.”

Their Walk and Talk sessions combine exercise and discussion, creating a supportive environment for men to connect and learn.

Health Campaigns and Free Screenings

Munsieville Community Health Centre has launched a “Know Your Numbers” campaign, offering free screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, and prostate health. The initiative encourages early detection and regular check-ups, especially for men over 40.

Changing the Conversation Around Men’s Health

In a society where men are often told to “man up,” Movember challenges that idea. It reminds us that seeking help isn’t weakness, it’s courage.

As Ratile Moeketsi from Brothers in Dialogue explains, “Taking care of your body and your mind is one of the strongest things a man can do.”

A Growing Movement in Mogale City

This Movember, Mogale City is growing more than moustaches, it’s growing awareness, compassion, and community strength.

When men talk, men heal, and when men heal, families and communities grow stronger too.
