Mashudu Primary School in Kagiso was a hive of activity on Thursday, 31 July as educators gathered for the handing over of vegetable seedlings, courtesy of Clinix Health Group’s newly launched Clinix Farmacy campaign. BAAGI News was on the ground to witness this meaningful act of community upliftment, which forms part of the Group’s Mandela Day commemorations.
In celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day, Clinix Health Group unveiled Clinix Farmacy, an initiative designed to promote healthy living, environmental education, and food security by establishing sustainable vegetable gardens in schools.
Mashudu Primary School is one of several schools across South Africa chosen to participate. The school received a generous donation of 180 vegetable seedlings, including kale, spinach, cabbage, lettuce, beetroot, and onions. Accompanying the seedlings were gardening tools and materials such as compost, spades, gloves, and protective coverings, setting the foundation for a thriving garden.
A Clinix representative, speaking during the handover, explained the heart behind the initiative:
“It’s to encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle and for them to maintain the garden. They should learn the importance of daily healthy eating. This is an opportunity to empower young ones as well as to contribute to the community.”
For educators at Mashudu, the gesture could not have come at a better time. One teacher, visibly moved, shared heartfelt words:
“It’s as if you know our community. Our kids come from disadvantaged homes, where some come to school hungry. We wish for these to grow so that they can benefit from the food. Thank you very much.”
The Clinix Farmacy project runs from 22 to 31 July 2025, with each of the group’s eight hospitals partnering with a local school. The goal is not only to establish gardens but to plant a long-term culture of sustainability, responsibility, and care.
This initiative truly captured the essence of Clinix’s mission. It brought to life their promise of bringing health and care together. Through the simple act of planting seeds, they are helping to nourish lives, spark learning, and strengthen communities.
For Mashudu Primary and many others like it, the Clinix Farmacy has sown more than vegetables, it has planted hope, nourishment, and the beginnings of self-sufficiency.
BAAGI News will continue to follow the impact of this campaign as gardens begin to bloom and communities reap the rewards.
