Worshiping God in style

Kagiso Presbyterian church hosted the eGoli Presbytery Fellowship of Young Women (FoYW) for their Paint and Worship fundraising event themed “rise above your insecurities” inspired by the bible verse Isiah 52 verse 2.

The minister of Kagiso Presbyterian Church, Reverend Lesego Mokeng opened the event with a beautiful message, encouraging the young women to be confident in their own skin and always strive to be themselves. They were then welcomed by the Kagiso FoYW chairlady, Refilwe Mtulu who asked everyone to feel at home. The business of the day began with a meet and greet game of polite pass.

The eGoli Fellowship of young women is determined to make it fashionable and stylish again for young people to do life with God without feeling the pressure of seeking nice time outside the church. The fellowship advocates that church should be fun, enjoyable and a safe space for young people to freely express themselves. They also acknowledge that these qualities are always the case, but they aim to make them that way for themselves and other young women who wish to join the fellowship.

Painting and worshiping was mainly a fundraiser but it proved to not only be a way for raising funds for the association but for getting to know one another beyond formal church meetings. The music was played, non-alcoholic drinks were served, delicious food was enjoyed, and great conversations were shared.

Basetsana Koboyankwe, a young, beautiful, vibrant MC, beauty pageant and Westside FM co-host was guest speaker at the event. She was an epitome of “rising above insecurities”. She described insecurities as feelings of uncertainty or anxiety about oneself, often due to perceived lack of ability, worth or attractiveness. She said, “insecurities will always be a part of our lives, human and all, saved or not.” She encouraged the young women to rise from those insecurities through self-reflection and awareness. “Identify trickers and accept that it is normal to feel insecurities at times. Recognise these feelings without judgement.” She further read psalm 129 verse 23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Canvases and paints were prepared for the young women. They painted, they worshipped, and they had fun!
